Details

Product Name: Suction Strainer / Tank Filter, 1-1/4 NPT – Part No. 606115-20

Description:
This component is a suction strainer (also known as a tank return line filter or suction filter), equipped with a 1-1/4 inch NPT (National Pipe Thread) port connection. It is designed for installation inside the hydraulic reservoir of a waterjet cutting system, mounted directly onto the suction line of the hydraulic pump. Its primary function is to perform coarse filtration of the hydraulic oil before it enters the pump, capturing large particulate contaminants and debris to protect the pump from immediate damage.

Unlike fine return line filters that handle oil after it leaves the system, this suction strainer is the "first line of defense" for the hydraulic pump itself.

Applications:

  • Installed on the suction (inlet) line of the hydraulic pump inside the reservoir tank.

  • Prevents large metal chips, weld slag, or environmental debris from being drawn into the pump.

  • Commonly serviced during hydraulic oil changes or major pump overhauls.

Features:

  • Coarse Filtration: Engineered to capture large particles without restricting the essential suction flow required by the hydraulic pump.

  • Rigid Construction: Typically features a metal mesh screen and a reinforced plastic or metal end cap to withstand the forces of fluid suction.

  • Accessible Design: Extends into the tank to draw oil from a cleaner stratum, often including a bypass valve to prevent pump starvation if the strainer becomes completely clogged.

  • Standard Port: 1-1/4 NPT male thread for secure installation into the pump inlet or tank bulkhead fitting.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Method (Cleaning):
Unlike disposable paper elements, this type of suction strainer is often a cleanable, reusable component. The standard maintenance procedure is as follows :

  1. Preparation: Drain the hydraulic oil from the reservoir or lower the oil level below the strainer mounting flange.

  2. Removal: Disconnect the suction line and unbolt the strainer assembly from the tank or pump.

  3. Soaking: Soak the strainer element in a cleaning solvent such as kerosene or diesel for approximately 15 minutes .

  4. Cleaning: Use a soft bristle brush to gently remove debris from the mesh screen. Do not use a wire brush which could damage the mesh .

  5. Rinsing & Drying: Rinse the strainer with clean solvent and dry thoroughly with compressed air.

  6. Reassembly: Reinstall the cleaned strainer and refill the reservoir with fresh hydraulic oil.

  7. Inspection: If the screen is torn, corroded, or heavily clogged beyond cleaning, the strainer must be replaced immediately.

Inspection Schedule:

  • Regular Intervals: It is recommended to inspect the tank return line filter when the filter clogging indicator lights up on the machine console .

  • Oil Change Cycle: Always clean or replace this strainer during the routine hydraulic oil change process .
